Consumers' aim is to get consumers a fairer deal and they regularly share with their members the "best products in the market". They do an annual New Zealand health insurance survey where they assess a number of health insurance plans.

In 2009 Consumer asked eight major health insurers to provide quotes for Hospital Only policies which were a best match for the profiles they provided. They compared plans that provided best cover and had reasonably priced premiums.

Consumer gave our SmartCare Hospital and Surgical plan top marks for providing outstanding cover for low premiums. They graded all the plans with a rating system of five stars, where five stars gave the most extensive cover for this type of policy. The Accuro SmartCare Hospital and Surgical base plan gained the maximum 5 stars.
